About this event

For decades, child welfare authorities have been removing Native American children from their homes to save them from being Indian. The Emmy-winning documentary "Dawnland" offers an inside look at the first truth and reconciliation commission for Native Americans, which took place in Maine.

In DEAR GEORGINA a Passamaquoddy elder journeys into an unclear past to better understand herself and her cultural heritage.

In honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day we invite the Melrose community to screen the documentaries with us in person as we join by live-stream TRC commissioner gkisedtanamoogk (Mashpee Wampanoag), film participant Dawn Neptune Adams (Penobscot), and linguist Roger Paul (Passamaquoddy) for a conversation moderated by DAWNLAND filmmaker and Upstander Project director Adam Mazo after the film.

The screening is free; we are asking for registration for purposes of head-count and the ability to communicate adjustments to event details, if needed. Masks will be required and social distancing will be practiced. Please contact us if you have accessibility needs regarding this event.
